Position Title: Nutrition Site Coordinator / Head Cook

Program: Meals on Wheels Program

Employment Type: Part-Time

Hours: 24 hours per week

Service Area: Salida, Colorado.

Rate of Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Closing Date: Open until filled

Position Description

Run the nutrition site and kitchen for the Meals on Wheels program in Salida. Prepare all food according to approved menus and recipes and serve meals on time with proper portion control in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Train and supervise the back-up Cook and kitchen volunteers, and keep the site in compliance with state and local health regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare all food according to approved menus and recipes.
  • Serve meals on time with proper portion control in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere.
  • Make sure all staff and volunteers follow proper sanitation procedures.
  • Compile and record daily, weekly, and monthly data.
  • Keep a current inventory of all foods and supplies, and order food and supply items as needed.
  • Train and supervise the back-up Cook and any volunteers in the kitchen, serving, and dining areas.
  • Work with local agencies and media to develop and promote participation and community outreach.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and service records.
  • Keep records of all state and local health inspections.

Other Duties

  • Deliver Meals on Wheels when needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise the back-up Cook and any volunteers working in the kitchen, serving, and dining areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience cooking a variety of foods in quantity from approved recipes.
  • Knowledge of health regulations, inventory control, and budgeting.
  • Obtain and maintain a current ServSafe Retail Food Handlers Certification, or an equivalent certification that meets State Unit on Aging standards, within six weeks of employment.
  • Experience using institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Math and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to deliver Meals on Wheels when needed. Must have reliable transportation, a valid Colorado driver's license, and current insurance.
  • Must pass a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with the elderly population.

Education & Experience

Experience cooking a variety of foods in quantity from approved recipes, and experience using institutional kitchen equipment.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

ServSafe Retail Food Handlers Certification, or an equivalent certification that meets State Unit on Aging standards, obtained within six weeks of employment. Valid Colorado driver's license and current insurance. Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of health regulations, inventory control, and budgeting.
  • Math and problem-solving skills.
