  • Position Description
    Employed by and responsible to the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments under the direction of the Central Colorado Area Agency on Aging (CCAAA). This position includes but is not limited to the overall responsibilities for the nutrition program throughout the region.

    Background in administration, program development and/or human services. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience in budget development and implementation. Knowledge of computer applications and Microsoft Office. Ability to work effectively with agencies, organizations and groups. Experience or strong desire to work with the elderly population. Knowledge of health and sanitation rules/regulations, inventory, cost control and purchasing desired. Must successfully pass and maintain ServSafe Certification at an instructor level and background check in accordance with State Unit on Aging policy and procedure.

Job Summary

Employed by and responsible to the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments under the direction of the Central Colorado Area Agency on Aging (CCAAA). This position includes but is not limited to the overall responsibilities for the nutrition program throughout the region.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Includes the following: data collection, monthly/quarterly/annual reports, food & product orders, inventory control, staff training, certifications, and professional development. Ensure each meal site is maintained in accordance with local and state health codes and regulations, State Unit on Aging (SUA) policy and procedure, and Volume 10 of Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS). Additional responsibilities may be assigned as directed by the CCAAA Director.

  • Ensure meals are served in accordance with federal, state and local rules/regulations and State Unit on Aging policies and procedures.
  • Compile and record daily/weekly/monthly nutrition data. Complete monthly/quarterly/annual reports as required by the Agency and ensure accuracy of all reports.
  • Maintain current inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Order food/supply/product items as needed with attention to overall costs to the program.
  • Seek, develop, and participate in nutrition related groups in order to facilitate communication and education with regards to the Nutrition Program.
  • Receive and respond to incoming communications and contacts (assessment forms, phone calls, walk-ins, or written inquiries).
  • Maintain communication with state appointed Nutritionist/Registered Dietitian and solicit feedback regarding nutrition education and changing regulations.
  • Recruit Nutrition Program personnel and ensure proper staffing, staff training and certifications, and professional development.
  • Evaluate and complete Nutrition Program staff evaluations annually.
  • Provide appropriate staff disciplinary documentation in cooperation with the CCAAA Director.
  • Provide technical support and coaching to nutrition staff as needed.
  • Conduct bi-annual Nutrition Program staff trainings on topics pertinent to the program.
  • Apply for annual Food Service Licenses for each meal site through the local county’s Public Health Department.
  • Solicit Nutrition Program providers and sub-grantees annually.
  • Approve timesheets and invoices for payment.
  • Maintain files as needed or directed in a confidential manner at the direction of the CCAAA Director.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policy/procedures, statutes, regulations and rules, and SUA policy and procedures affecting the Nutrition Program.
  • Maintain cost effective/efficient methods of ordering (best price, best quality).
  • Ensure budgetary responsibility in all phases of the Nutrition Program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all CCAAA programs for purposes of information and referral.
  • Work with local agencies and media to develop and promote community outreach of the Nutrition Program as approved by the CCAAA Director.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all participant participation.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of UAACOG policies/procedures.
  • Always represent the CCAAA in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CCAAA Director and/or his/her designee.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise Nutrition Program personnel and/or as directed by the CCAAA Director.

The Nutrition Director must be able to supervise personnel from different backgrounds. Experience or strong desire to work with the elderly population. Knowledge of health and sanitation rules/regulations, inventory, cost control, and purchasing desired. Must successfully pass and maintain ServSafe Certification at an instructor level and background check in accordance with SUA policy and procedure.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
