WIC

WIC, the special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children, provides nutrition education, supplemental foods, and referrals to other health services for low income mothers and their children.

Why is WIC important?

Your children need good nutrition, starting when you are pregnant, to grow up strong and healthy.

Who is WIC for?

  • Women who are:
    • Pregnant
    • New Mothers
    • Breastfeeding
  • Infants up to 1 year of age
  • Children up to age 5

If you are a father, mother, grandparent, foster parent or other legal guardian of a child under 5, you can apply for WIC for your child.

What will WIC offer you?

  • Nutrition Education

    • You will receive nutrition counseling for yourself and your children.

  • Breastfeeding Support

    • You will learn about breastfeeding.

  • Health Care Referrals

    • You will find out how you can receive benefits from other health care programs.

  • Nutritious Foods

    • You will receive checks to buy free, healthy foods at the grocery store.

    • You will save money when you use your WIC checks. You can use this money to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, baby foods, and other foods WIC does not provide.

If you are on WIC, can you still be on other programs?

  • You can receive food stamps and other social service and food program benefits while you are on WIC.

You may qualify if you or your child:

  • Have a nutritional need for WIC
  • Meet the WIC Program Income guidelines
  • Live in an area that has a WIC clinic

Are WIC services free?

Yes, they are free.

Colorado WIC Income Guidelines
Effective from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008

1 $0 up to $1,575
2 $0 up to $2,111
3 $0 up to $2,648
4 $0 up to $3,184
5 $0 up to $3,721
6 $0 up to $4,257
7 $0 up to $4,794
8 $0 up to $5,330

*One pregnant woman is a household of two.

For over 8 household members or if you have any income questions call your local WIC clinic.
